Report
Eric Chester reported from the Credentials Committee
Waivers were granted to the following:
California: Six month membership requirement for Jack Gerson was waived
and he was seated.
Connecticut: Gender-balance requirement waived. Two male delegates, no
females.
Massachusetts: Gender-balance requirement waived. Three male delegates,
one female.
Michigan: Delegate added after deadline, but deadline was waived
and one male delegate (Jim Griffin) was seated).
North Carolina: Gender-balance requirement waived. Two male delegates,
no females.
Iowa: Iowa reported one month late, but the deadline was waived and one
male delegate (Don Doumakes) was seated.
Oregon: After reviewing credentials, it was agreed that the delegation
weight was 10 and that all delegates reported in the State Secretaries
report would be seated, up to 10, when gender balanced.
Pennsylvania: Six month membership requirement for Jessica Dreistadt
was waived and she was seated.
Wisconsin: Gender-balance requirement waived. Four female delegates, no
males.
Motion: To approve the Credentials Committee report. Motion passed by a
clear majority.
Delegations were seated and the agenda was discussed.
Agenda
Agenda changes were discussed and was amended.
Motion: To approve the agenda as amended. Motion passed 33 yes 5
abstentions.
Rules
Motion: To strike rule #23. Motion failed 16 yes 22 no and 7
abstentions.
Motion: To strike rule #23 and #24 and replace with the following
#23: All votes shall be open, no secret ballots. The election for
female NC/Alternates shall precede the male NC/Alternate elections.
#24: Election of Co-Chairs and co-Vice Chairs will be through a series
of standing votes. Each delegate may vote for one candidate. The
candidate with the lowest number of votes shall be dropped and a new
round of voting will then take place until one candidate receives a
majority of the votes. The election of National Committee members and
alternates shall be held by a show of red voting cards, with each
delegate having as many votes as there are National Committee members
to be elected in that election. The candidates receiving the highest
number of votes shall be elected as National Committee members. The
next highest vote-getters equal in numbers to those elected to the
National Committee, shall be elected as alternates. Motion passed 30
yes, 4 no, 4 abstentions.
Motion: To add the following rule “A two-thirds majority is needed to
amend the
Statement of Principles”.
Substitute Motion: To add the following rule “A sixty percent super
majority is needed to amend the Statement of Principles”. Substitute
Motion failed by clear majority.
Original motion was re-addressed. Motion: To add the following rule “A
two-thirds majority is needed to amend the Statement of Principles”.
Motion passed 30 yes 10 no and 3 abstentions.
Motion: To add a “20 second rule” to the convention rules, where any
delegate could request 20 seconds of silence. The 20 seconds would
start as soon as the chair rules complete silence existed. Motion
failed by a clear majority.
Motion: To adopt rules as amended. Motion passed by a clear majority.
The following were elected
as session chairs:
Saturday AM session: Peter Diamondstone 22, Shaun Richman 18. Peter
Diamondstone co-chairs Saturday morning session.
Mary Alice Herbert elected without opposition.
Saturday PM session: Shaun Richman 23, Matthew Andrews 17. Shaun
Richman co-chairs Saturday afternoon session.
Susan Dorazio elected without opposition.
Sunday AM session: Matthew Andrews elected without opposition.
Tina Phillips 27, Linda Randolph 14. Tina Phillips chairs co-chairs
Sunday morning session.
Greg Pason requested volunteers to serve as recording secretaries.
BJ Eversole, Emma Gonzales, Matthew Andres, Mary Loritz, Jim Griffin
and Mal Herbert volunteered to serve.
