Socialist Party USA: National Action Committee Minutes
Meeting of the SPUSA National Action Committee
December 8, 2011
Via phone conference

Attending (all or part): Stephanie Cholenski, Vivian Nelson-Mele, Billy Wharton, Mimi Soltysik, Kristin Schall, Lynn Lomibao, Stephanie Adames, Veronica Nowakowski, Stephanie Gussin, Greg Pason, Matthew Andrews, Larry Burks and Peter Moody.

Meeting called to order at 9:08 pm

National Office Report
Greg reported that he has sent out an end of year questionnaire to state organizations and locals in unorganized states; copies of the Center of Constitutional Right’s  “If An Agent Knocks” booklet to all state organizations and locals in unorganized states; letters requesting locals send reps for the Anti-Imperialism Committee and for the upcoming Plan of Action Committee; membership renewal letters and December membership lists to the appropriate states/local organizations. The Hammer & Tongs mailing w/ Convention minutes is gong out next week w/ a fundraising letter and The Socialist will be mailed in the next 14 days.
He also reported that there is an updated pdf of Principles on-line which is properly laid out for printing and that he set up a new phone # / voice mail since the office has been having problems with our land lime. That number is (212) 537 – 4728.

As directed by the post convention NC, union-made buttons were made for the Alexander/Mendoza campaign. $81+ was spent from the SNC fund, and the remaining portion of the $150 allocated will be sent as a donation to the campaign.

Greg also reported the following resignations:

Steve sears resigned and has sent in a signed letter.
Jerry Stastny has resigned by e-mail as will send a signed letter. The committee acknowledged Jerry Stastny’s resignation. Since Jerry was Treasurer Greg reported that he will get all the financial materials together for the January NC finance report.

Motion (Greg P).: The National Office has received a signed resignation letter from Steve Sears and accepts his resignation. Peter Moody will take the male NC vacancy as the first male alternate. Motion passed 11 yes Stephanie C., Vivian N-M, Billy W., Mimi S., Kristin S., Lynn L., Stephanie A., Veronica N., Stephanie Gussin, Greg Pason, Matthew A. and 1 abstention (Larry B.)

Local Charter
Motion (Greg P): To charter the Socialist Party of Greater Philadelphia, with the charter taking effect as soon as a Local Executive Committee is elected. Motion passed unanimously.

Clarifying the Status of Unofficial Webpages, Forums and E-Mail Lists
The group discussed the various facebook discussion groups and establishing a policy on how they are to be identified.

Motion (Matthew A.) All Facebook groups, webpages, discussion boards, e-mail groups and other internet media which is not authorized by the appropriate chartered organization in the SPUSA shall clearly identify themselves, by changing or updating their names and descriptions, as unofficial and not endorsed by the SPUSA.

Amendment (Veronica N.)To direct the National Secretary to contact these groups, webpages, discussion boards etc and give then 15 days to comply before contacted the host to take them down.
Amendment passed 10 yes (Stephanie C, Vivian N-M, Billy W., Mimi S., Kristin S., Lynn L., Stephanie A., Veronica N., Stephanie G., Greg P.)  2 no (Matthew A., Larry B.)

Policy on Threats/Security
The group discussed recent e-mail from Larry Rockwood and creating a possible policy on dealing with security at NC meetings.

Motion: (Vivian N-M): To hold the following resolution to a mail ballot of the full National Committee. "That ------------------- it to be be suspended from attending National Committee or other Party committee meetings until a mental health professional provides the National Committee with a written acknowledgement that it's okay for him to be a part of these type of discussion outlets and does not pose a danger to himself or others." Motion failed 2 yes (Vivian N-M, Matthew A) 9 no (Stephanie C., Billy W, Mimi S, Kristin S, Lynn L, Veronica N, Stephanie G., Greg P., Larry B)

Waiver
Motion (Greg P.) To grant a dues waiver to Janet Miller of Chicago. Motion passed unanimously

Florida
Greg P. reported that he recently received communication from the Florida State Secretary that the SEC was inactive.

The committee discussed the status of the Florida Party, specifically the process of reorganization. Greg said he would contact existing SEC and LEC members to help reorganize the state and local organizations.

2012 Summer National Organizing Conference
The group discussed planning for the summer 2012 national organizing conference.

Motion (Greg P.): To direct the National Secretary to put out a call to local and state organizations to host the summer 2012 national organizing conference. The call will go out to all locals based on calls sent out in the past. Applications to host the conference are due on January 21, 2012. the conference location will be decided at the January 28-29, 2012 National Committee meeting. Motion passed unanimously

Dec. 18th Global Day of Action for Immigrants
Matthew A. gave an update on the campaign and Greg reported a webpage was set up with events and resources.

NATO/G8 Protests
The committee agreed to discuss logistics at the January NC meeting.

Upcoming NC meeting
Greg P. reported that he has not heard back from Dallas on the location, but members should book tickets and plan on the event being in the Dallas area. He also reminded members that resolutions must be submitted by January 6th to be include din the NC mailing.
